CONCEPT

The idea behind the show was to create an art project that is educational, entertaining and engaging.

The project can be conducted as part of English Literature programme in Britain and Ireland as well as complementary element of the English as a Foreign Language programme in other countries.

It can take up to 20 hours of teaching sessions and consists of three stages:

  1. Preparation for the show
    • Using worksheets provided
    • Pre-teaching vocabulary from the show
    • Reading extracts from The Picture of Dorian Gray
    • Reading extracts from Importance of Being Earnest
  2. Attending the Wilde about Oscar show
    • Following the show
    • Active involvement in the interactive parts of the show
  3. Taking part in Oscar Wild Workshop
    • Finding out more about the life and work of Oscar Wild
    • Putting the show in context of the times
  4. Follow up work
    • Using worksheets provided
    • Checking understanding of the show and the workshop
    • Reading extracts from The Picture of Dorian Gray
    • Reading extracts from Importance of Being Earnest
    • Discussion of issues such as living in a society and civil liberties
